  1. Emotional Wellbeing

I remember this program I heard on NPR. It talked about how much information our senses are receiving all the time. And how a large part of our survival as a sensory being is to screen out most of the information and only permit the important ones (such as screeching tires, or someone speaking) to register in our consciousness. Our brain does this automatically, without us knowing.

In my opinion, the senses we screened out of our consciousness has been experienced and filed away someplace in us. And these files become our reference bank for the future. When we walk into a room full of strangers, we are not conscious of all that goes into choosing which direction to walk to, where to sit and so on. These choices are made with conscious precision based on what the large reference bank provides. Colors, smells, past relations, energetic readings, emotions, feelings, and much more, all play into this seemingly random choice. All the while, our whole being is working to avoid disasters and produce the most favorable outcome for what the heart desires, which more often than not, is also undetected.

Think of how many of these moments make up our everyday life. Think of how much auto piloting a person needs to just get through the day. If a decision works well at one time for once or twice, it could easily become the designated decision for other similar issues until a new decision is consciously chosen. This makes good survival sense. This is how we keep the balls rolling and our life operating.

The thing is, emotions come up all the time while different events and decisions take place daily. In our modern life, we tuck those emotions aside to continue our tasks and duties. Much like our physically belongings get stored in our home, our emotions also get stored in our body. We keep our house in good order, by spring cleaning and reorganizing. For our emotional wellbeing, we need to do the same for our body. Just like our stuff, some of our emotions could be given, some we acquire ourselves, some are forced upon us and some are passed down from folks. Just like we go through things that are well loved, functional or have long been forgotten, even never been used. We need to allow time and space to look over our stored emotions, see where they come from and decide if we want to keep them. Time and effort is needed to keep our emotional body well. The good news is, like everything else, practice makes perfect. The more we examine and process our emotions, the easier and more efficient we become.
